Malcolm orders each soldier to cut down and carry a bough from the Wood so as to conceal their numbers from Macbeth. Alone with Lady Macbeth, Macbeth resolves to meet the witches again. Lady Macbeth, who casts off her femininity and claims to feel no qualms about killing her own children, is doubled in Lady Macduff, who is a model of a good mother and wife. Banquo fears, for example, that the witches' words will "enkindle [Macbeth] unto the crown"in other words, that they will awaken in Macbeth an ambition that is already latent in him (I iii 119). In Act 5, Scene 1, Macbeth tells Lady Macbeth that he is going to kill Banquo. She then tells him her plan, which includes framing the attendants for the murder of King Duncan, to which her amazed and impressed husband ultimately agrees. And not all fate is self-fulfilling. Later, Macbeth is fighting against Macduff and Malcolm. These apparitions instruct Macbeth to beware Macduff but reassure him that no man born of woman can harm him and that he will not be overthrown until Birnam Wood moves to Dunsinane. Macbeth is worried that Duncan might be protected by the gods, but Lady Macbeth tells him not to worry about that and to just do what needs to be done. When Macbeth enters, Lady Macbeth claims that she can read what he wants to do in his face. Macbeth has Macduffs wife and children murdered. Lady Macbeth tries to convince him that she was just dreaming, but Macbeth is not convinced.
